I cannot express enough gratitude to the entire team at Select for their exceptional care and support during my recovery from open-heart surgery. From the moment I arrived, I was met with warmth and professionalism that immediately put me at ease. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely invested in their patients' well-being.
Even before I was in their facility, Jim Waldrip was quick to speak with my family and welcome me in. Throughout my stay he checked in and was an enthusiastic and encouraging presence in the hospital.
Their rehabilitation was instrumental in my healing process. The physical therapists were patient and encouraging, helping me regain my strength and confidence with each visit.
Beyond the physical recovery, the emotional support I received was invaluable. The team truly understands the challenges of recovering from such a major surgery, and they went above and beyond to ensure I felt supported every step of the way.
Thanks to the Nurses, therapists, techs, and Jim, I’m now back on my feet and feeling stronger than ever. I highly recommend them to anyone in need of rehabilitation hospital services. They are simply the best!

My husband was able to be weaned from the ventilator and then have his trach tube removed. Two weeks later you couldn’t tell he was ever trached. Select specialty hospital has great staff. Belinda the secretary is fabulous, looked forward to Jeremy in house keeping coming in each day, what a nice young man. And I can’t say enough praises for the dietary staff. The brother and sister team cared so much about getting you nourishment that you would eat. The nursing staff was great.I couldn’t pick a favorite. Loved them all, they made you feel like family.

Thank you to Select Specialty Hospital - Gainesville
On Friday, June 14 my father suffered a stroke at his home. He was taken by ambulance to HCA North Florida in Gainesville. On Monday, June 17, due to complete negligence and a rapid decline in his condition, I made the decision to have him transported to the UF Shand’s Hospital emergency room. From the moment he entered the emergency room, his level of care greatly improved, and after being treated and evaluated, he was admitted to the neurology wing, where the care and commitment continued until later that week. He developed pneumonia and was transferred to the Neuro-ICU wing at Shand’s. There he was stabilized and well cared for until it was determined that he no longer needed intensive care. At this point, he was transferred to Select Specialty.
I and my family cannot say enough good things about the warm welcome and level of care that we received here. My father was a patient here at Select from June 29 until August 4, and in that time we met and worked with so many wonderful nurses and caregivers. We never had any questions that went unanswered, and any concerns we had about his status immediately became your concerns too. Rhonda, Jim, and the entire staff was always happy to share updates when we couldn’t be with my dad, and a little conversation and even some laughs along the way. Select Specialty has some of the most dedicated, professional, and caring staff we have ever encountered and would recommend them to anyone who might need long-term acute care. We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone for all that you put into taking care of my dad and helping us through this difficult time. I and my family truly believe that Select Specialty Hospital in Gainesville is the number one long-term acute care hospital in Florida.

To others who may be considering care at Shanes Select Specialist Hospital in Gainesville Florida.
Intro:
I , the wife of a patient had to endure such distress concerning the care of my husband by a case manager name Odella.
Odella main intentions were for me to discharge my husband to a (VA)veterans administration nursing home in which I was given a list of the facilities near the town in which I live ( via )Odella!
The confrontation:
I repeatedly informed Odella that I was taking my husband home and provide care, if it meant having to personally hire staff! But Odella continues to work against my decision and continue to speak of different nursing homes. Odella was still trying to prepare for my husband to discharge to a VA nursing home instead of his own home . A discharge date to return home and not to a long term care facility was scheduled for 9/9/24. After speaking with the physician and having the trac removed from my husband’s throat on 9/6/24 to begin the discharge process for 9/9/24 as planned. At this point all things appeared to be working in our favor but while sitting in the room eating a sub sandwich, Odella returns back to the room with written prescriptions for meds with a new discharge date of 9/7/24. I questioned her about the change in date! She replies,” the doctor changed the discharge date”! I asked to speak with the doctor because I never was given any information about a new discharge date ; nor have I been given any training concerning the neck IV , meds dosage administered , his personal care , and not to mention ; the prescriptions wasn’t signed by a physician!!!! Odella became upset and threw the scripts back at me after I handed them to her to show her that there’s no signature. She threw the scripts at me an began to exit the room. Not to mention that I had built a rapport with everyone that worked with my husband as my schedule consisted of being present 7 days a week from 8 am until 7pm daily since his admission. I thought Odell’s and I had built a rapport but her behavior was unethical and unprofessional in which she constantly harassed me about nursing home placement and now throwing unsigned paperwork ( prescriptions ). I stuck my head out the room door after she exited and said a few unsweetened words due to the fact she had no respect for the patient and his families choice to return home , along with throwing the unsigned medication scripts. Unfortunately , I never was connected to the doctor!! I immediately phoned the VA case manager and informed her of the situation and she began to informed me that she ( herself) had just spoken with Odella via phone right before I called, which puzzled her ( VA case manager with a new discharge date) because the discharge date had changed and that my husband wasn’t completely ready for a early discharge!
Results:
After discussing the situation with the VA case manager because my husband was in their hospital and was referred to Shanes for therapy!!!!!!!!
I informed the hall nurse at Shanes that the discharge date will remain for 9/9/24. To contact my husband case manager with the VA which is in walking distance from Shanes if any information is needed.
My sympathy:
I hope that no other family have to be disrespected , disconnected, discriminated against their own core values of caring for their loved ones in which case manger Odella proceeded to make one feel!!!! No one with a personality like that of Odella , who lacks empathy and people skills ( customer service) needs to work in an environment which causes self engagement with others!!!!! I am so disgusted with having to encounter such behavior that would make anyone question the validity of the caregiver’s purpose such as Odella’s !
Enclosing:
Please stand up and speak out against any form of unprofessional conduct in healthcare because our loved ones are in their care!!!!!! Mrs. Irma Goode, a devoted wife!

My experience with the case manager Odella(not sure if this is the correct name)after my father passed in the facility's care was the most reprehensible behavior from someone who is in a position in a Healthcare environment. The first encounter was by phone while trying to locate my deceased fathers remains. During the call she was passive aggressive, unprofessional, lacked empathy for a grieving family. When i travel hundreds of miles there to handle my deceased fathers affairs I was speaking to one of her coworkers and she abruptly inserted herself into the conversation in an attempt to have a verbal altercation with me. She was so aggressive that I was afraid that she would physically harm me. Please avoid sending your loved ones to this facility where employees lack tact and professionalism. This case management personnel is refusing to release info to me so that I can bury my father in s timely and respectfully. They've contacted someone who my father may not even be the actual parent of who suffers from autism and substances abuse and doesn't even have the ability to make pertinent decisions, let alone burial arrangements. What respectable institution would purposely refuse to provide information to the family of their deceased father just to be vindictive. This is has been overwhelming and despicable.

After having double by pass surgery I was taken fro ICU to the Shands Acute Care unit. The mission of this until is to bring the patient to the point of being able to move to the Shands Rehabilitation Hospital. During my stay at the Acute care hospital I received excellent care from the talented and dedicated staff. Staff were available 24/7 to care for their patients. While I was moved there from ICU I found the unit was focused on my recovery with a competent Medical Staff, Nursing, and Physical, Speech and Occupational Therapy. The food was adequate but people with specific dietary needs such as soft foods need to double check that the food meets their needs as recommended by Speech Therapy. I received Physical Therapy no less than once a day to insure I would be getting up and assist in my recovery. I was encouraged to spend time sitting up and going through light exercise to aid in my readiness to move to the next step. Staff were rotated due to internal needs which isn't ideal but I can't say it was negative to my care. There was a red light I could activate to get attention from staff and I would say that the response tines could have been better. However, all in all I found the majority of staff to be caring and and technically the quality of my care to be excellent. I would recommend this hospital for Acute Care.
Once I was deemed ready I was moved to The Shands Rehabilitation Hospital. I found this Hospital to be Superior. The staff were top notch and caring. There was a Gym available and routines offered three times a day in Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy. The food was very good and the staff attentive. They also insured that if assistance were needed by the patient it was received in short order. Sometimes staff would drop by to be sure I was ok. The mission of this Hospital was to prepare their patients to return home and help them attain any additional assistance once there. For me, This Hospital met those needs with the exception of some work on my Trachea which will require addition medical intervention by an Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist. The duration of my stay was approximately two weeks. I was satisfied with the Rehabilitation within the timeframe I was there.
I want to commend the Staff for a job well done and give special kudos to Jim Waldrip, Director of Marketing, as he followed my progress through my stay and still checks on my from time to time.
